How to use it

Bowl of ground red chili powder

Spicy curries & vindaloo

Start with ¼–½ tsp. Bloom it briefly in warm oil off the heat, then taste and add more.

Marinades & chutneys

Stir into yogurt marinades, chutneys and pickles for heat and a deep red color.

Why This Isn't Your Grocery Store Chili Powder

Most red chili powder is weak, stale, and padded with fillers. Here's how we're different.

From Byadgi Typical store chili powder
Heat Real, bold heat from pure ground hot chilies: this is lal mirch Often weak heat from old, diluted blends
Freshness Manufacturing date printed on every pouch Usually only a best-by date
Cost $10.67 per 100 g at regular price, for tested, traceable chili Often cheaper per ounce, but with no testing or source shown
Lab testing 105 tests per batch: pesticides, heavy metals, aflatoxins, salmonella, E. coli Results rarely shared
What's inside One ingredient: red chili. Nothing else. May contain fillers, colorants or blending agents
Full transparency Batch number, manufacturing date and lab report (QR code) on every pouch, from a family 40 years in the trade Little beyond the label; often unclear who packed it or where

Common Questions

How much should I use?

Start with ¼ to ½ tsp per dish — at 29,449 SHU this is real heat. Bloom it briefly in warm oil off the heat for the best color and flavor, then taste and add more. You can always add heat; you can't take it out.

Can I use it for hot sauce, wings, or BBQ?

Absolutely. It's one ingredient — pure ground red chili — so it works anywhere you want clean heat: wing rubs, hot sauce, taco seasoning, BBQ rubs, salsa, deviled eggs. Use it like cayenne, but with better flavor.

Why $24 when Amazon sells a 1kg bag for less?

Bulk bags are untested and undated — you can't verify purity, age, or even the heat level inside. Every From Byadgi pouch carries a published 105-parameter lab report (29,449 SHU in our lab test) and its manufacturing date, backed by a money-back guarantee from a family you can actually reach.

How hot is this? Is it really spicy?

Yes — this is our hot chili powder. It's potent, so a little goes a long way. If you love bold heat in your curries, vindaloo, or marinades, this is the one. If you want color without the heat, try our Kashmiri Red Chili Powder or Byadgi Chili Powder instead.

My recipe says "lal mirch" — is this what I need?

Yes. Lal mirch powder is Hindi for red chili powder — this is exactly that. Pure ground red chili, nothing else. If your recipe calls for lal mirch, this is what it's asking for.

What's the difference between Red Chili, Byadgi, and Kashmiri chili powder?

Red Chili Powder (this one) is the hottest — built for bold heat and deep color. Use it for vindaloo, spicy curries, and anything that needs a real kick. Byadgi Chili Powder is milder with a deep, smoky warmth — the classic choice for South Indian dishes like sambhar and rasam. Kashmiri Red Chili Powder is the mildest — prized for brilliant crimson color, perfect for tandoori and butter chicken where color matters more than heat.

Is this the same as American chili powder?

No. American-style "chili powder" is a seasoning blend — it contains cumin, garlic, oregano, and other spices mixed in. This is 100% pure ground red chili. One ingredient. If your Tex-Mex recipe calls for "chili powder," that's a different product. If your Indian, Middle Eastern, or Southeast Asian recipe calls for red chili powder — this is it.

How is this different from paprika or cayenne?

Paprika is mild with almost no heat — it's mainly for color. Cayenne is pure heat with very little flavor depth. Our Red Chili Powder sits in between — bold heat like cayenne but with the deep color and complex flavor that paprika lacks. It does both jobs at once.

What makes From Byadgi different?

We're a family from Byadgi, Karnataka — with over 40 years in the spice business. Three retail shops, a wholesale network, and end-to-end control from sourcing to delivery. Every batch is hand-selected, third-party lab tested, and Non-GMO verified.

How should I store it?

Keep in the original sealed pouch or transfer to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dark place — not above your stove. Always use a dry spoon. Best within 12 months of the manufacturing date printed on the pouch for the fullest color and heat. Stored well, it keeps nicely beyond that, and many of our customers use it longer.

Is shipping free?

Free shipping on all U.S. orders over $36. Orders placed by 2 pm PT (Mon–Fri) ship the same day, with full tracking.

I want color but not too much heat — should I get this?

No — if you want vibrant color without strong heat, go with our Kashmiri Red Chili Powder (mildest, brilliant crimson) or Byadgi Chili Powder (mild, deep smoky red). This Red Chili Powder is for people who want real spice.

What if I'm not happy?

You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee. If the spices don't meet your expectations or arrive damaged, email us and we'll refund or replace them. We're a family business — your trust means everything to us.
