Customer Reviews
Good dhania powder makes all the difference in curry bases, and this one is so fragrant! It has a lovely citrusy, warm note that balances bold spices perfectly. It doesn't clump and tastes like it was ground yesterday.
Common Questions
Why $24 when I can get ground coriander at the store for less?
Most grocery store coriander was ground months ago and has lost most of its flavor and aroma by the time you open it. That's why people think coriander "doesn't do anything." Ours is freshly ground and third-party lab tested — pure coriander seed with nothing added.
Our 225g pouch is 4–5× bigger than what boutique spice brands sell. At $10.67 per 100g, you're paying less than half what they charge.
My ground coriander never has any flavor — why?
Because it's stale. Coriander loses its aroma faster than almost any other spice once ground. The jars sitting on grocery store shelves for months have already lost most of their essential oils. Freshly ground coriander — like ours — has a warm, citrusy, almost floral aroma that you can smell the moment you open the pouch. If you've only ever used stale coriander, the difference will surprise you.
I hate cilantro — will I hate this too?
No. Cilantro and coriander come from the same plant, but they taste completely different. Cilantro (the leaves) has that soapy taste some people can't stand — that's genetic. Coriander (the seeds, ground) tastes warm, nutty, and citrusy with zero soapiness. Many cilantro haters love coriander powder. They're not interchangeable in recipes either.
I bought too much coriander — what can I make with it?
Coriander is one of the most versatile spices in the kitchen. Use it in curries, dal, soups, stews, roasted vegetables, scrambled eggs, spice rubs for meat or fish, homemade garam masala, marinades, and even baked goods like cookies and cakes. It pairs beautifully with cumin, turmeric, chili, garlic, and lemon. Start adding ½ to 1 teaspoon to whatever you're cooking — it won't overpower anything.
Is ground coriander the same as garam masala?
No. Coriander is a single spice — one ingredient. Garam masala is a blend of multiple spices (usually coriander, cumin, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and pepper). Coriander is often an ingredient in garam masala, but they're not interchangeable. If your recipe calls for ground coriander, use ground coriander — not garam masala.
Can I substitute ground coriander for whole coriander seeds?
Yes, but adjust the amount. Whole seeds have a more intense, concentrated flavor. Use about ¾ teaspoon of ground coriander for every 1 teaspoon of whole seeds your recipe calls for. Ground coriander blends into sauces and gravies more smoothly, while whole seeds are better for tempering and pickling.
What makes From Byadgi different?
We're a family from Byadgi, Karnataka — with over 40 years in the spice business. Three retail shops, a wholesale network, and end-to-end control from sourcing to delivery. Every batch is hand-selected, third-party lab tested, and Non-GMO verified.
How should I store it?
Keep in the original sealed pouch or transfer to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dark place — not above your stove. Always use a dry spoon. Stored properly, 18–24 months of freshness. Coriander loses flavor fast when exposed to air and light, so keep it sealed.
Is shipping free?
Free shipping on all U.S. orders over $48. Ships within 3–5 business days via FedEx or UPS with full tracking.
